Fabricating the Future: New Career Pathways in NZ’s Digital Creative Sector

In conjunction with the 2012 Design and Semantics of Form and Movement (DeSForM) conference, the School of Design Victoria University will honour and celebrate Wellington’s uniquely diverse digital design community with an exhibition featuring a wide selection of recent projects and research from industry, academic staff, and students. The exhibition, which embodies the theme “Fabricating the Future,” will feature work ranging from special effects in the entertainment industry to demonstrations of 3D printing and other forms of digital fabrication, illustrating the research areas, industry developments, and new technologies at the heart of Wellington’s innovative digital creative sector. This rapidly expanding professional sector is seeing incredible growth and promises rich career pathways for young designers and others working within related or partnering industries both domestically and abroad. The exhibition also will highlight new and notable projects from such New Zealand creative leaders as Weta Digital, Click Suite, RESN, Ponoko, 77 pieces, PikPok, The Gibson Group, Mohawk Media and others.
